Last march, I spent a week on Saint Simons Island for spring break with my best friend, Kirby. At the end of the week her boyfriend Josh joined us. I asked them if I could take photos of them to help build my photography portfolio and they obviously said yes!
I wanted to find a place where we could see the sunset but Saint Simons doesn’t have any beaches on the west side of the island. We decided to make the drive over to Jekyll island where we found the only beach where you can watch the sunset over the ocean: St Andrews Beach. (HIGHLY RECOMMEND BTW)
It was around 35º on the beach…. Notttt ideal for a beach photoshoot. LOL.
The wind blew in every which way and there was simply no way to avoid crazy hair or clothes blowing in the wind, so we embraced it. We faced the cold wind for about 30 minutes and then we took a break in the car for 15 minutes to let our hands and toes thaw out. After our break, we took photos for another 20 minutes.
Those last 20 minutes were beyond worth it though because the 3 of us got to see one of the most stunning sunsets of our lives (don’t worry — I included photos of it!!).
Looking back on that day, I’m glad we took the photos (and so are Kirby and Josh!). The cold was super uncomfortable, but in the end, the photos turned out incredible and the memories of that evening will last a lifetime.
